Moving house is stressful at the best of times, let alone if you’ve got lots of tricky and awkward items to get packed up. You’ve likely already got enough on your plate without worrying how you’re going to safely pack your favourite dresser or a big mirror.
Below, we’ve put together our top tips for packing tricky items when moving.
Mirrors and picture frames
Mirrors and picture frames are fragile and breakable and therefore need to be packed with extra care. We recommend individually wrapping mirrors and picture frames with bubble wrap and a layer of soft cloth for extra protection. You can also get foam corner covers for additional protection too. Be very careful when moving mirrors and frames and try to keep them together during transportation.
Television
Ideally, you’ll want to pack your television in its original box; however, you may no longer have the original packaging and box. If this is the case, you’ll need to wrap the monitor and pedestal carefully in a sheet or blanket and secure it with tape. Your TV will need to be carried correctly and safely to the removals van where nothing heavy should be placed on top of it.
Furniture
Furniture should be disassembled where possible to make it easier to transport. When pieces of furniture are broken down into small components, they’re far easier to move. Wrap furniture in moving blankets to protect it against scratches, gouges and any other forms of damage, and always carry and move with care.
Power tools
It’s important to ensure your expensive power tools are not damaged during transit and therefore extra care needs to be taken when packing them. Make sure you remove any detachable parts from tools and use bubble wrap to cover any sharp edges.
We recommend packing your tools in a strong box to protect them in the van; it’s also a good idea to surround them with crumpled newspaper to prevent them from bumping into each other and causing damage. Taping the box firmly closed will also ensure they stay safe and protected.
